To support the 44 local units in LWPTSA Council, we rely on many volunteers. Below are some of the volunteer opportunities that currently are available for the 2025-2026 PTA year. If you have questions, please contact our current Council president at President {at} LWPTSA.net. This page was last updated on 8/8/2025.
Executive Committee Positions
- Area VPs* — Each Area VP (AVP) serves as a key liaison between the Council board and the local PTAs that fall within their assigned areas, and represents their PTAs’ interests to Council’s board. (Find our open AVP positions and the PTAs that each AVP covers on our Board of Directors page.) AVPs ensure that local PTAs in their areas are apprised of relevant Council, State and National PTA news and events, and likewise, reports on their PTAs’ highlights to Council’s board and membership. NOTE: To be an AVP, you do NOT need to reside in that “area.”
- Communications Co-VP* — The Communications VP(s) manages LWPTSA Council’s communications platforms and serves as technical admin for Council’s Microsoft 365 applications and Zoom account. This includes coordinating and managing production of our weekly newsletters (Mailchimp platform), website (WordPress) and social media content (Facebook & Instagram). With support and assistance from a newsletter editor, social media editor, and content contribution from other Council leaders and chairs, this role’s responsibilities are distributed and should ideally be focused on ensuring consistency in message and adherence to Council policies. Familiarity with PTA, technical proficiency, organization, and an interest in clear and concise communication will be helpful for this role. Note that one co-VP is needed to partner with our current co-VP.
Chairperson Positions
- Family Education Chair (or Co-Chairs) — The Family Ed Chair(s), working with the support and supervision of our Family And Community Engagement (FACE) VP, facilitates Council’s family education programs and endeavors. This includes our yearly Family Education Grant program for local PTAs, as well as collaborating with LWSD and other Council-approved organizations to identify opportunities for family education events (speakers, workshops, outreach).
- Membership Chair* (or Co-Chairs) — The Membership Chair works with Council board members to determine Council’s membership goal for the year, and monitors progress toward that goal with local PTAs throughout the year. Each fall, this chair reaches out to local PTAs’ presidents and membership chairs to facilitate support with using Givebacks, WSPTA’s membership database. Tracks achievement and progress toward various WSPTA membership level awards. Serves as a voting member of the Council Board of Directors.
- Newsletter Editor(s) — The Newsletter Editor works with the Communications VP(s), President(s) and other Council leaders to gather, edit/proofread, format, and organize content for LWPTSA Council’s weekly newsletters. This role is active from late August through the end of the academic year in June. The editor should be detail-oriented and acquainted with PTA. Familiarity with Mailchimp or similar content publishing platforms is helpful but not required, as training may be arranged. This is a fully remote role that does not require routine meeting attendance.
- Scholarship Program Chair (or Co-Chairs) — Chair(s) manages Council’s annual Scholarship Program for graduating LWSD seniors and certificated LWSD staff. This is a chair role that is active from approximately January to June. The Scholarship Chair updates application materials; works with committee members and other Council leaders to distribute applications and promote the program; works with committee members to redact personally identifying information; and directs independent judging process to anonymously evaluate applicants. The chair also coordinates the in-person scholarship award ceremony and reception in early June. Guidance, templates and support are all available to assist the chair in this role.
