LWPTSA Council is thrilled to see one of our own recognized at the state level! Horace Mann PTSA was just featured in the WSPTA Spotlight for their outstanding work creating an inclusive environment for their students. It is wonderful to see their team’s dedication honored in this way
From WSPTA: Horace Mann PTSA’s Special Needs Committee went above and beyond in creating a thoughtful and engaging display for Disability Awareness Month.
The display highlighted both hidden and visible disabilities, including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, wheelchair users, blindness, color blindness, and deafness, ensuring that many students and staff felt seen and celebrated. They also created a Disability Pride flag and explained the meaning of its colors, adding an extra layer of awareness and celebration.
The display featured interactive elements to engage viewers, such as a braille alphabet to explore, sign language cards, and signage encouraging inclusion of all classmates. To make the experience even more engaging, the display included a “scavenger hunt” to discover items supporting the disability and neurodiverse communities.
This thoughtful, inclusive effort truly embodies the spirit of the spotlight.
